POSITION:
Industrial Research Fellow – Medicinal Chemistry
TYPE OF POSITION:
Permanent, Full time; this position applies to candidates with no previous post-doctoral experience.
DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to a Senior Research Scientist the incumbent will be responsible for the design, synthesis and characterization of novel small molecule therapeutic agents for the treatment of human conditions. The incumbent will also be responsible for presenting scientific data in a team environment, writing synthetic reports and aiding in the drafting of patents. Maintaining a current and high level of knowledge in the field of Medicinal Chemistry is essential.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:
Ideal candidates will be completing their PhD in synthetic, organic or medicinal chemistry by March 30, 2008. Must qualify for a NSERC Industrial Research Fellowship grant, please see eligibility details at www.nserc.ca/guide/sf/3c_e.htm.
EXPERIENCE::
Previously worked in a natural products or Medicinal Chemistry environment either for summer jobs or coop programs.
SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Well versed in modern synthetic techniques and emerging technologies; display strong leadership skills. You will have completed several multi-step syntheses and are comfortable working in an independent manner. You must be familiar with biochemistry and compound screening as it relates to SAR. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Bilingualism is an asset.
